What are Story Breakdowns?

As avid comic readers and collectors, we all know that comics come in a plethora of forms. Some are single story issues, some have backup stories, some are anthologies and of course, there are collected editions reprinting stories from multiple issues. Each story is brought to life by a set of creators with numerous character appearances. Despite this, most comic book websites/databases do not care to display the full contents and attribution for each comic. This trivializes the work that goes into creating comic books and misrepresents what the average reader is actually consuming.

League of Comic Geeks uses "Story Breakdowns" to display this information accurately. Our contributor community works hard to ensure you see the full contents of a comic and your stats reflect the true amount of appearances of your favorite creators and characters. When a collected edition (such as Trade Paperbacks and Hardcovers) reprints a previously published story, the collected issue is presented alongside the story with your current read status.

If you find the Story Breakdowns provide too much information for your needs, we do offer some settings to streamline or adjust this display.

To get to the Story Breakdown settings:
  • When using the website, you can access your Settings from the account navigation. Go to it and select the Comic tab. From here, you can customize the Story Breakdowns.
  • When using the mobile app, the first tab has a Settings (cog icon) menu. Go to it and select Comic Page Settings. From here, you can customize the Story Breakdowns.
Available settings:
  • Default View: Story Title Headings - This is our default display for Story Breakdowns. The contents of the comic will appear prominently with their Story Titles.
  • Default View: Issue Number Headings - This is an alternative to the default display for Story Breakdowns. The contents of the comic will appear prominently with the collected issue, reducing the prominence of the Story Title.
  • Simple View - This is an alternative available for Pro & Patron users. This aggregates all stories into a single set of creators, characters, and collected issues. This hides all additional content from the comic.
